When Otter.ai is the better choice

When Otter is the better choice: if your team lives in shared, real-time notes and wants deep calendar and CRM integrations, Otter's cloud model delivers collaboration Omit intentionally does not. Otter also carries a formal SOC 2 Type II attestation that Omit does not hold, and aligns with ISO 27001 and GDPR frameworks. Omit's answer is a different one: keep the audio on the device so there is nothing in a cloud to share, subpoena, or breach.

Otter is the subject of a federal class action over consent

The suit alleges Otter recorded conversations and used them to train its models without obtaining consent from every participant on the call, rather than only the host. The allegations are untested and Otter disputes them. We raise it because consent from non-host participants is a structural problem for any assistant that joins a meeting and uploads audio, and it is the single question most likely to come back to you from a customer or a works council.

Pricing starts around 8.33 US dollars per user per month

That is the annual Pro rate, with Business tiers commonly cited between 20 and 30 dollars per user per month. Per seat, per month, indefinitely. Omit Meet is part of a 249 dollar perpetual suite licence, so the comparison flips at roughly two to three seat-years depending on tier.

Otter holds SOC 2 Type II. Omit does not

This is a genuine advantage for Otter and we will not talk around it. If your procurement process requires a SOC 2 report from the vendor, Otter can produce one today and we cannot. Our answer is different in kind rather than better: no audio reaches us, so there is no vendor environment for an auditor to attest to. Whether that satisfies your reviewer is a question worth asking them before you trial either product.

Choose Omit Meet when the recording must not leave the machine: regulated sectors, works council constraints, client confidentiality, or meetings where you cannot get informed consent from every participant to a cloud upload. Also choose it if a perpetual licence suits you better than per-seat billing that never ends.

Choose Otter.ai when

Choose Otter when live collaboration is the point. Real-time shared notes, comments, broad calendar and CRM integrations, and a mature web app are all things Otter does well and Omit deliberately does not do at all. If your team lives in shared documents during the call rather than reading notes after it, Otter is the better fit and you should pick it.

Does Omit upload my meeting audio like Otter?

No. Recording, transcription, diarization, and summaries all run locally. There is no cloud upload and no analytics endpoint.

Is Omit SOC 2 certified like Otter?

No, and we say so plainly. Otter holds SOC 2 Type II attestation and aligns with ISO 27001 and GDPR frameworks. Omit's local-only design makes many controls inherent rather than certified, and we document exactly that in the Trust Center.

Will people see a bot in the meeting?

No. Omit captures system audio on your own device, so nothing joins the call as a participant, unlike OtterPilot.
