Step 2 of 2

Installing Omit Redact

You picked the offline installer. Everything in the box. Never touches the network, at install or after it.

Your download

Omit-Redact-1.0.0-beta.11-x64-offline-setup.exe

If the download did not start, use Download again.

Not code signed yet

This beta carries no code signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning the first time you run the installer. The warning is about the missing certificate, not about the file you downloaded. Nothing in the app phones home, there is no telemetry and no account, and a certificate is on the way. The install steps show you the exact screen and which button to click.

  1. 1

    Run the downloaded installer

Open the file your browser just saved, from the downloads shelf or from your Downloads folder. It installs for the current user, so you do not need an administrator to approve it.

  2. 2

Click More info, then Run anyway

Windows shows a blue screen headed Windows protected your PC. Click More info to reveal the Run anyway button, then click it. Every download of this beta sees this screen.

  3. 3

Open Omit Redact from the Start menu

There is no account to create and no sign-in step, so it opens straight into its own window. Protect ships switched off, so a fresh install watches nothing until you turn it on.

Why does Windows say the publisher is unknown?

Because this beta carries no code signing certificate yet. SmartScreen is telling you the truth: it has not seen this file before and cannot name who signed it. Click More info, then Run anyway. When signing is in place we will say so on this page rather than quietly changing the wording.

What beta means here

This is the first public build of finished work. The engine, the operators and the vault are the same ones we have been testing against golden files all year. What a first build has not had is your machine, your documents and your edge cases, so if something misbehaves we want to hear about it.
